In past articles, I’ve liked to speculate about complex sentient society acts like a particle; but now it’s time to look at the ‘machine’ in which allows for this to happen and how it operates, starting with the fundamental laws of physics which act like programming over the configuration of the universe.
In order to describe this phenomenon, we have to look at it in two-fold, on the universal scale and within the organization of complex sentient society itself. This examination yields an interesting parallel in which to explain constants normally overlooked as relative to separate and single overarching systems. on the universal scale, we see time, matter and energy and light and on the human scale, we see themes like oppression, justice, love, and truth as having a universal state to which we observe.
we’re going to start a series looking at the universal; when Einstein described general relativity (e=mc2) he outlined the relationship between energy and mass in the observable universe. this works as a constant conversion formula in which to calculate the movement of energy particles through a vacuum. it also describes the effect one variable has on another in order to perceive an interpretation of objects in our universe. these rules of calculable observation of energy underlie a critical perception at the local scale, galactic scale, and universal: relativistic time, a constant in which the universe is bound by and relays a constant “truth”. However, this constant’s variable quality, time, is isolated to the particular configuration of physics in our known universe. it is a value that can be rectified to reflect a common unit regardless of the pocket of space and time and allows an anchor to various states of observation. that is to say, time is the same under the same conditions anywhere in the universe by the consensus of innumerable variables and prevailing effect in our universe.
you might say: this isn’t new, so why should it warrant an article?
In the advent of blockchain decentralized computing, (in a blockchain a network of computers work to maintain a common state of a value ledger that is permanent and immutable across all network systems through cryptography and computation) it highlights the similarities of decentralized computing and general relativity to explain the constant state of energy in a pre-determined system. This pre-determination in the universe is the laws of physics observed by random phenomena within our universe, this is equivalent to the consensus found in the states of decentralized systems and the random variables in those types of systems sequenced by formulas to create an ordered state to transactions on the network. Even pockets of the universe that behave strangely end up conforming to the same formula and interpretation of time relative to the same equation, the universe forms consensus in a relativistic interpretation of time. you cannot create or destroy energy, the “ledger of the universe” always rectifies states to align with the consensus of operations of general relativity and the laws of physics, to change the parameters of that system isn’t possible given the space to perform conversions and operations in our universe, even heat death conforms to the same rules when zero-point energy is achieved and the progression outwards reaches a climax of outward expansion.
now one might say that you can change the state of ledger through a 51% attack or some other computing alliance that reflects the insufficiency in the network growth and development, not the integrity of the idea of decentralized computing as a whole and this effect isn’t unlike the naturally occurring phenomena of black holes as observed in the universe. in a 51% attack, part of computing nodes in the ledger change the common state and are computed faster than the rest of the total network to change the overall state of the network, a black hole’s mass draws energy through relative gravitational attraction faster than it would regularly move in the rest of the universe to create their gripping effect. in both scenarios a common distribution is maintained but the distribution is varied, new coins aren’t created in 51% attacks but the distribution of total coins may be greatly changed resulting in an a new common distribution of resources or matter in each respective case.
without going into the minute detail, it is easy to see the similarity of the systems currently being developed and the observable nature of the universe. This leads to the idea proposed in the article title, if the universe is a computer, it works as a quantum blockchain.
This will be the first article in a series exploring this junction of computer science, social science, and general physics.
